Saturday/ Sunday
So, I might be finally beginning this journey. Here goes.
First up was My Bloody Valentine's '"Glider". BRILLIANT from start to finish. It was a dream to listen to this again- and although it is connected so firmly in my mind with my life in the early 90's -it doesn't feel as dated as some other trips down memory lane do. Stand outs for me were Don't Ask Why and Soon but I love the whole thing.
Secondly, my husband put in The Cure's "Disintegration". Plainsong is a beautiful jam, Pictures of You hasn't worn out its welcome with me yet but Closedown has to be my favorite song on the whole album. I still remember all the words (not that there are many) and it reminds me of middle school angst and waver boys. Disintegration and Homesick were most enjoyable to me on the second side.
Next up was The Smiths' "Strangeways, Here We Come". These songs are so ingrained in my mind it surprises me after all this time I still enjoy them. The Smiths played a huge part in my life in middle school and I have an aquantaince named Norma Najera to thank for it. One day, while spending the night at my best friend Heather's house, we walked past Norma's house and she loaned us The Smiths' " The Smiths" and it, literally, changed my life. I think we listened to the entire album about six times in a row that night. It was a magical time and the beginning of my deep love of music. So, wherever you are Norma, thanks. Standout for me was "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" but that doesn't stop me from singing along to pretty much every song. On the other hand, I don't ever really miss listening to the Smiths because, again, it is so ingrained in me.
Charlatans UK's "Some Friendly" was thrown into the mix and I was surprised at how much of this album I'd forgotten. I didn't enjoy this as much as the others.
Finally, on the list from yesterday was Cocteau Twins's "Love's Easy Tears". Like the My Bloody Valentine's ep from earlier in the day, the whole thing felt like candy to me. Sweet and wonderful to listen to but not long enough to grow too tired of the flashback quality. I own this in my box set, so I am glad I will still have it around.
Today, I am starting off my day with Bjork's Telegram. Not my favorite Bjork album and so far, on side B there hasn't been a song I feel like I need to hear again anytime soon. I prefer other Bjork albums by far.
Finally, the Church and the Under the Milky Way single. It was good to hear Under the Milky Way (and it has now become an earworm).
